The Gem Museum Shop started as a souvenir shop at The Gem Museum when a visitor from overseas had a wonderful experience here and wanted to donate to the museum. However, as we are not a non-profit organization, we could only offer to sell some gem specimens to her. Since then, we have had many visitors who enquire about gem specimens to buy as souvenirs and gifts. In 2018, the flagship retail store of The Gem Museum Shop was opened at a heartland mall in Singapore- Bukit Timah Plaza. Visitors were then able to enjoy their browsing experience as the retail store showcases not only gem specimens, but also rocks, minerals, handmade accessories and some jewellery pieces. Many families came to this store as the children were interested in learning more about gems. The Gem Museum also holds regular talks, workshops and programs for adults and children, to promote the interest in gemology.

When the worldwide pandemic Covid-19 happened, we had the opportunity to bring our products online. Hence, thegemmuseumshop.com was born.. We are also visible on e-commerce websites such as Lazada, Qoo10, Shopee and Carousell as well.

The Team
People behind The Gem Museum
Mr. Tay Kunming
Mr. Tay Kunming is the founder of The Gem Museum and a director of Far East Gem Institute, Far East Gems & Jewellery and The King's Bespoke. As a certified gemmologist, diamond grader and gem dealer, Mr. Tay has travelled widely to various parts of Asia-Pacific, such as Australia, Indonesia, Vietnam, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Thailand, China and Hong Kong, for gem sourcing trips and to participate in trade fairs. Well respected in the trade, Kunming is a committee member in the Diamond Exchange of Singapore and also an executive committee member in the Singapore Jewellers’ Association, actively championing initiatives and efforts to raise the profile of the industry.
Ms. Loke Huiying
Ms. Loke Huiying is the founder of The Gem Museum. A certified trainer in gemmology, she has been training jewellery professionals and business owners since 2009. In early 2015, she personally curated about 1000 samples for The Gem Museum. Ms. Loke strongly believes in education through hands-on experience and building strong relationships with people.
